"...from the town hall" - 11.10.2024

Dear fellow residents,

Rock stabilization Brandenburg

This year, extensive slope and rock stabilization measures were carried out in the area of the town of Zell (Mosel). The specialist company is currently securing the rock in Brandenburg.

It has become apparent that the rock face needs to be cleared of vegetation and secured beyond the area initially planned. Some of the work could be included and completed as part of the ongoing tendered work.

When clearing the southern section of the wall of vegetation, it turned out that there was already stone material broken out of the hedges. It is too dangerous for pedestrians and moving traffic to continue removing this vegetation without providing appropriate protection on the ground. A protective wall made of concrete blocks is being or has been erected to provide protection.

Work on repairing the bridge crossings will begin in the next few days. This means that the southern slope stabilization cannot be completed. Once the vegetation has been removed, the geologist from the State Geological Survey will reassess the rock face and determine the necessary work. These can then be put out to tender and awarded.

Due to the “bridge” construction project and the renewed expansion of the rock protection, the protective wall will have to remain in place for a longer period of time. We ask the public for their understanding. The measure serves the safety of pedestrians and road users. We ask pedestrians to use the other side of the road.

Jumelage / Town twinning

The town of Zell (Mosel) has been twinned with Crepy-en-Valois and Antoing since 1957. The town of Plonsk in Poland was added in 2022. Plonsk is located approx. 50 km north of Warsaw, is a town with around 15,000 inhabitants, is developing through trade and receives funding from the EU.

Every year, one of the towns organizes a meeting called a jumelage. This year, Plonsk was the host.

A delegation from our city traveled to Plonsk and took part in the events and celebrations. This weekend, Plonsk celebrated its patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel, with a festive high mass and in the evening with a large concert by pop groups that are very well known in Poland in front of over 2,000 visitors.

Among other things, the towns' twinning pledge was renewed at the ceremony on Sunday. As a gift from the town of Zell (Mosel), we presented a flag with the coats of arms of the four towns and the words “Town twinning” in French, Polish and German.

As part of the ceremony, the town of Zell (Mosel) invited the D-youth soccer teams to a tournament in Zell at Whitsun next year.

At the working meeting of the twin towns, it was decided that the next Jumelage meeting would take place in Crépy-en-Valois next year. The date will be announced by Crépy.

Situation at the Mittelmosel Clinic

Although the decision-makers regarding the continued existence of the Mittelmosel Clinic have shown little willingness to give in, we want to continue to campaign for the preservation of our clinic and, in particular, for adequate emergency care.

In addition to the contacts - especially of the municipality of Zell (Mosel) - with the decision-makers at the clinic operator, the health insurance associations, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and also the district of Cochem-Zell, the vigils on the grounds of the Mittelmosel Clinic on Mondays at 7 p.m. remain a means of expressing the views of the population and thus the patients of our hospital.

Let us show here through numerous participants that we do not agree in any way with the concept presented for the health care of our population in the district of Cochem-Zell. 18 wooden crosses were erected as a permanent reminder. On behalf of 18,000 residents who cannot receive sufficient help quickly enough in the event of a life-threatening health condition.

The town of Zell and the municipality of Zell are not involved in the decision. Discussions with the decision-makers tend to show that they are trying to “pull the local communities over to their side”.

Discussions with decision-makers are extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important that all of us, young and old, continue to actively voice our concerns, needs and fears to decision-makers in all forms. Be it locally, on the internet in the social media, in the press and in all other public forums.

Come to the vigil in front of the Mittelmosel Clinic on Monday evening at 7.00 pm.

So that all residents can get an idea of the position of the district of Cochem-Zell on this issue, we have posted the currently published meeting draft of the Cochem-Zell district administration for the district council meeting on 07.10.2024 on our website.

Further construction of the Kirschbaumweg

The Friedrich company has been commissioned to build the Kirschbaumweg on the Barl between the Barl II residential area and Barlstraße-Nord. Many residents will be wondering why the construction site is at a standstill. After repeated consultations with the construction company, we can inform you:

The road construction crew is currently setting up for the further road expansion. Construction was halted due to vacations and a change of crews. However, the Friedrich company will first close the sidewalk in the area of the bend of the 2nd Barlauffahrt towards Marienburg and then resume work on Kirschbaumweg.

I wish you all a pleasant week and hope that we can contribute to the continued existence of the Mittelmosel Clinic.

Your
Town mayor
Hans-Peter Döpgen
